Remember pet rocks? They’re the ultimate low-maintenance pet – and a fun, creative project that gets your kids outside exploring nature! And don’t forget to meet Iggy, the rock star in our newest series, Troop Dragonfly!

What You'll Need
- A smooth rock (or many!)
- Kid-safe craft paint
- Paint brushes
- Googly eyes (Note to Grown-ups: Do not use small objects, like googly eyes, with young children. Draw or paint eyes instead!)
- Glue
- Optional: Miscellaneous fun craft materials, such as pom poms, feathers, or fur
How to Create
Start by exploring outside at a local park, beach, or lake, and look for a smooth rock – one is fine, but collect more if you want!
When you and your rock(s) get back home, help your child prime it with white craft paint.
Let it dry, then help your child paint their rock a base color of their choice.
Decorate the rock, and give it a personality with eyes, hair, and accessories!
